Portugal Place/Cambridge University 2 vs Melbourn 1
Weds 11th March
Melbourn lost 1-20
The 1sts Division 1 survival hopes hang by a thread after they were beaten 20-1 at fellow strugglers Portugal Place/Cambridge University 1sts
Many of the games were hard fought, Malik Bilen (1) and Vinod Duraikan (2) each taking one of theirs to a tie-breaker against Dave Woodman and Reuben Morris respectively, whilst Mark Oppen and Mumin Bilen put up strong resistance against Ed Wheeler and Tim Daulby. But ultimately Melbourn’s sole point came from Kate Bradshaw (4) as she became the only player to avoided a 3-0 defeat, going down 3-1 to Daniel Beer instead.
The loss leaves Melbourn 13 points adrift of safety ahead of the final round of fixtures, needing both a comprehensive win in their match against last year’s champions March and a heavy defeat for one of their rivals if their four season spell in the top flight of County Squash is not to come to an end.
Skipper Mark said “PP's team order was strong so we all were tested. Kate played particularly well that produced the only point of the night for the team.”
