Melbourn 1 vs Cambridge 1
Weds 26th February
Melbourn lost 8-19
Melbourn Squash Club 1sts put in a battling performance against Cambridge 1sts in their Division 1 encounter, but ultimately fell to a 19-8 defeat.
Aidan Hird (5) got Melbourn off to a superb start as he recovered from a two games to one deficit to Steve Casey to win his string 3-2. However Cambridge struck back as Kate Bradshaw (4) fell 3-1 to Simon Scott and Mark Oppen (3) lost 3-0 against Ali Dawson.
The top two strings were both very close and high-quality encounters. Vinod Duraikan (2) fought hard to establish a 2-1 lead over David Champion, only to see it evaporate to a 3-2 reverse. Matt Sampson (1) followed the same pattern against teenager Owen Ledger, Sampson giving his all to go 2-1 up but then being ground down to a 3-2 loss.
Melbourn now sit 13 points adrift of safety with three matches to play and are desperate to pick up some wins soon.
