Melbourn II vs Radlett II
Tues 21st May
Melbourn lost 5-9
Melbourn 2nds entertained Radlett II for this Herts Div 4 fixture.
The first contest was Ewan Conradie (3) against Xavier Desfeuillet, a very enthusiastic player who chased hard for every point. However, Xavier was no match for Ewan who played some excellent patient squash, rarely making any unforced errors. The first game was comfortably taken, the second game was more competitive but the Melbourn player took all 3 games to win 3-0.
Next up was the Melbourn skipper, Roger Woodfield (2) against Adam Batten. The first game proved very tight with the Melbourn player taking it 16-14. When the second game was taken 15-11, it looked as though Roger was on course for victory. But Adam fought hard and came back to win 16-14 and the next game as the Melbourn player visibly flagged. The final game was very competitive but Roger’s comeback came too late and the match was lost 2-3.
Colm O’Gorman (1) struggled to find his form and rhythm against Nick Cooper and lost the first game. The second game was much more competitive but that, too, was lost 12-15. The third game was decisively won by the visitor and the match 3-0.
Skipper Roger said “I was disappointed to lose my own match as the final result turned on it. The highlight was Ewan Conradie’s excellent form, he is unbeaten so far this summer.”
