Bushey 1 vs Melbourn 2
Tues 11th June
Melbourn won 12-0
Melbourn 2nds travelled to Bushey for this Herts Div 4 fixture.
First up was Roger Woodfield (2) who took control of the match from the off against an enthusiastic but inexperienced match player. Despite this the Bushey player, Ranjan Kumar, did produce some useful shots but was not consistent enough to develop any real pressure on Roger, who won 3-0.
Similarly, Matt Walker (1) never looked in trouble against Paul Elliot, who again was not able to generate sufficient pressure to win many points. The result was inevitable with the Melbourn player comfortably winning 3-0.
Stuart Lowe (3) was making his debut for Melbourn. He faced a more substantial challenge from Darren Hewerdine, a hard hitting unorthodox player who produced some difficult shots to deal with. To his credit, the Melbourn player held his nerve and narrowly took the first game 16-14. This was decisive and the Stuart went on to win the next two games and the match 3-0.
Skipper Roger Woodfield said “Bushey are a newly formed team competing in the Herts League for the first time. So, they are always going to find it hard to play teams like us who have many years of match experience to draw upon. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable contest played in a very good spirit. We wish them well and look forward to the return fixture at Melbourn.”
