Radlett 2 vs Melbourn 2
Tues 23rd July
Melbourn lost 12-4
Melbourn 2nds travelled to Radlett for this Herts Div 4 fixture.
First up for Melbourn was skipper Roger Woodfield (2) who started well, outplaying his opponent Michael Myers to win the first game 15-4. Then the Radlett player settled down and fought back to narrowly win the second game 17-15. The third game was no less competitive, but once again, Roger just fell short and lost it 16-18. By now Roger was starting to tire and could not break down his opponent’s game and lost the fourth and the match 1-3.
The next contest was even closer. Ewan Conradie (3) took on Adam Batten, an extremely fit young player who chased everything down. The Radlett player took the first game but then Ewan raised his game and played well to win the next two games. The fourth game proved to be the decisive one; after an epic struggle, the Radlett player won it 16-14. Ewan tried to compete in the fifth but could not keep up with his opponent and the match went to Radlett at 3-2.
This left Sean Hamilton (1) to play John Batten, a very experienced match player who comfortably won the first game 15-9. The second game saw Sean play some excellent squash and outplay his opponent. With the score 1-1, Sean tried to maintain the momentum he developed in the second game but was unable to do so. He lost the next two games and the match 1-3.
Skipper Roger said “Although we lost all 3 strings, we all played very well and were a little bit unlucky not to have come away with a better result and more points to boost our league position”
