Luton & Dunstable 2 vs Melbourn 2
Tues 9th July
Melbourn lost 9-4
Melbourn 2nds travelled to Dunstable for this Herts Div 4 fixture.
First up for Melbourn was skipper Roger Woodfield (2) who started well outplaying Tim Bliss to win the first game 15-9. Then the Luton player settled down and played consistently well to win the second game 15-11. After that Roger failed to impose his game on his opponent who won the final two games and the match 3-1.
Meanwhile, on the other court, Ewan Conradie (3) also made a good start winning the first game 15-11. His teenage opponent, Lily Main, was competing well but she was unable to match Ewan’s power and experience as he went on to win comfortably with a 3-0 scoreline.
Sean Hamilton (1) had a very difficult match against Amir Jafri, a skilful player who varied the pace, initially slowing the pace down and then launching high speed rallies. Sean competed very well; despite losing the first game, he had a great opportunity to win the second but was edged out of it at 14-16. After that epic game the Luton player took control and won the third game and the match 3-0.
Skipper Roger Woodfield said “This turned out to be a difficult match to dominate despite a comfortable win at third string. Of the other two strings I had the best opportunity to win but could not capitalise on a good start”
