Melbourn II vs Frank Lee III
Mon 28th January
Melbourn won 20-0
Melbourn 2nds cruised to a comfortable 20-0 victory over bottom of the table Frank Lee on Monday evening.
In a reversal of the usual order the first strings opened proceedings, Gareth (1) taking on Tom Moore. Gareth was always in control of this, with just wandering concertation his only threat. That did cost him five consecutive points during the opening game, but he still won it 15-10. The next two were more consistent, Gareth taking them 15-8 15-9 to complete his win.
Meanwhile Ewan (5) next door was making short work of visiting skipper Lawrence Lim. Ewan was as ruthless as he had been in Cambridge earlier in the season, playing tight down the walls to win 15-3 15-4 15-5.
The other three matches were all cruises for the Melbourn players. Roger (4) beat James Starr 15-3 15-7 15-3, Sean (3) was too good for Moz Khudairi winning 15-6 15-8 15-9 and John (2) beat Simon Mitchell 15-6 15-12 15-10 to complete the whitewash.
Elsewhere in the Division, Kimbolton 2nds, who had won 9 out of 9 in the first half of the season, were well beaten 20-2 at Haverhill 1sts. That has reduced the crowd at the top of the table from four teams down to three, with Melbourn top and Haverhill and Fenland just three points back. Next week, the 2nds are at home to Haverhill. A big one…
