March 1 vs Melbourn 1

Weds 4th December

Melbourn lost 17-5

Melbourn 1sts picked up five useful points from their visitor to reigning Cambs County Champions March 1sts, despite a rash of injuries and unavailabilities forcing them to travel with just three players.

All of Melbourn’s points came from the teenaged Bilen brothers. Malik Bilen, playing 1st string, put in an excellent performance to shock March’s top string Scott Drewery, who had lost once all season previously, 3-0. His performance was arguably surpassed by younger brother Mumin Bilen (3), who was up against a significant opponent in the home team captain Matt Fiveash, a highly experienced and highly competitive match player. Bilen played out of his skin however to claim the second and fourth games, though he ultimately lost 3-2.

Skipper Mark Oppen (2) was facing one of the hosts own talented juniors, Thomas Ramsey, and lost 3-0. He commented afterwards that “It was a very good night of squash from the boys”
