Melbourn 2 vs Bushey 1
Tues 13th August
Melbourn won 12-0
Melbourn II secured an easy 3-0 victory over league newcomers Bushey Grove at the home leg of their two summer clashes.
First on court was James (3) who shrugged off illness to overcome his opponent Barry 15-6, 15-8, 15-4. James had considered pulling out earlier in the day because he was not feeling well. But he decided a game of squash might do him more good than harm - and came out fighting. James threw away a few points trying to close rallies early with big winners which narrowly went out. But he remained in control of the game for a decisive result.
Next up was Sean (2). He dominated the first game, winning 15-5. But a lapse of concentration during the second game saw Steve from the away team get back in the action. Sean got his head back together and managed to win 15-9. The third game was over quickly with a 15-3 victory to Melbourn.
Without doubt the hardest match of the night was between the two No1s. James from Bushey showed incredible speed around the court with great movement and retrieval skills. But home player Colm's superior accuracy allowed him to close most of the long rallies. Colm came away with a hard-fought 15-9, 15-7, 15-7 result.
Captain for the night Sean said: “It was not the toughest fixture of the season but it was still a great evening. Everyone watched each other play and there was a good atmosphere.”
