Melbourn vs Hunts County II

Tues 5th December

Melbourn won 17-8

Melbourn Squash Club Ladies side have reached the halfway stage of the season with a perfect record of 8 wins from 8 as they look to defend their Cambs county title.

The latest victory came against Hunts County 2nds by a score of 18-6. Debbie Thain (5) got Melbourn off to a strong start with a comprehensive 3-0 win, and though Hunts responded when Frances Smith (4) fell 3-1, further wins for Lynne Hays (3) and Sam Pluck (2) by 3-0 and 3-1 margins respectively gave Melbourn the five-point win bonus.

The match of the evening was at top string as Helen Pilling built a two game lead, saw that whittled away but then reasserted herself to claim the decider 15-10.

Skipper Hays assessed the campaign to date, saying “It’s been a very successful first half for the team. We are very lucky to have such strength throughout, enabling us to continue our winning streak whilst allowing Kate [Bradshaw, Melbourn Ladies strongest player] to rest some of the matches. I believe a number of the teams will beef up their sides in the second half when playing Melbourn!”
