Ickleford 2 vs Melbourn 2
Tues 25th June
Melbourn lost 4-12
Melbourn 2nds travelled to Ickleford, near Hitchin, for this Herts Div 4 fixture.
First up for Melbourn was skipper Roger Woodfield (3) who started strongly, overwhelming opponent Rich Brown to win the first game 15-6. Then the Ickleford player settled down and played consistently well to just win the second game 15-13. After that Roger failed to impose his game on his opponent who won the final two games and the match 3-1.
Sean Hamilton (2) also made a good start against Callum Brock winning the first game 15-13. His opponent responded well and won the second game 15-13. Then this match really started to heat up when Sean upped his game and convincingly won the third. Yet again Callum came back strongly and won the fourth 15-13. Despite leading in the final game, Sean could not keep up and lost it and the match 2-3. All in all, a cracking contest.
Matt Walker (1) found himself up against a very calm consistent player in Neil Miller who was making few mistakes; this lead to a 0-2 deficit. Then Matt raised his game and the third game was an epic affair, with the Melbourn player taking it 18-16. Neil reimposed his authority and took the fourth game and the match 3-1.
Skipper Roger said “Sean had a great opportunity to win his match and was obviously disappointed to lose 2-3. The other two matches were keenly contested but, at the end of the day, Ickleford had the edge in all three matches”
