Melbourn II vs Letchworth VI
Tues 4th September
Melbourn won 9-3
Melbourn 2nds hosted Letchworth VI for the last game in the Div 5 summer campaign.
First up was Rob Davis (2) who quickly stamped his authority on an opponent who struggled to find form and rhythm. The first 2 games were comfortably won before the Letchworth player upped his game and took the game to the Melbourn player. However, it was too little and too late and the Rob won 3-0.
Roger Woodfield (3) had an unusually slow start and quickly found himself 0-6 down until he started to get to some very good boasts. The first game was secured and the second easily taken 15-1. By this time the Letchworth player was tiring and could not get back into the game and Melbourn won 3-0.
The first string contest produced some very entertaining squash but Sean Hamilton (1) could not sustain an excellent start and lost the first game 13-15. The second game was another close affair with the Melbourn player just losing out 12-15. The third game was extremely competitive but despite getting to game point the Melbourn went down 15-17, a great effort against a very fine match player.
Skipper Roger Woodfield said “This was a very satisfying end to a successful summer campaign where we won 9 out of 16 matches. This means we will end up mid table, a great effort considering our top players were unavailable for most of the matches”
