Chantry I vs Melbourn
Tues 15th May
Melbourn won 9-4
Melbourn 2nds made it three wins out of three in Division 5 with a 9-4 success in their away fixture at Chantry I.
First on court was 3rd string James Storer, facing an awkward opponent who, with a fast pace and long reach, proved difficult to win points against at times. Storer took the first two games, but his opponent dug deep and clawed himself back in to the match taking the 3rd. A closely fought 4th game, with some long rallies, saw Storer eventually take it 15-13 to win the match 3-1.
Ewan Conradie (2) was next up. A slow start saw Conradie initially go 1-7 down in the opener, but he found another gear to get back in to the game, drawing level at 8-8 before going on to take the 1st 15-13. After that, he proved too strong for his opponent, and was able to take the 2nd and 3rd games comfortably to win 3-0.
Top sting Richard March was last to play, and struggled to find his rhythm against a clever left-hander with a particularly strong forehand, who was quick to kill off any loose shots on that side. After going two down, March fought back hard in the 3rd, concentrating his efforts on his opponent's backhand, but was ultimately unable to prosper, going down 12-15 to make it 0-3.
