Tues 1st May
Melbourn won 11-5
Melbourn 2nds opening Division 5 encounter saw them win 11-5 at Letchworth 6ths.
A major disruption to the Great Northern rail service forced Letchworth to draft in two last-minute replacements, one of whom opened proceedings against Melbourn second string Sean Hamilton. An epic battle, lasting over an hour, eventually saw Hamilton's determination pay off as he took the match 3-2. Next up on court was third string James Storer who, on top form, was too strong for Letchworth's other stand-in, comfortably winning his match 3-0.
Melbourn's top string Colm O'Gorman, returning to court for the first time following illness, found himself involved in the evening's second five game encounter, against a wily opponent who was quick to punish any loose shots. Dominance swung back and forth, but in the end O'Gorman, still not fully fit, was unlucky to lose 2-3, going down 15-13 in the decider.
