Active Fitness I vs Melbourn II
Tues 19th June
Melbourn lost 12-1
Melbourn 2nds travelled to Stevenage for what turned out to be the toughest match so far of this Herts Div 5 summer season. Ewan Conradie (3) played first and initially looked fairly comfortable taking the first game. However, his opponent really dug deep and slowly closed down Ewan’s game causing frustration and errors; this string was lost 1-3. Roger Woodfield (2) struggled from the start to break down his opponent’s game. Some periods of pressure did bring a run of points but the Stevenage player always responded and eventually won 3-0. Sean Hamilton (1) was up against an extremely good player who demonstrated class and control from the off. Sean actually played very well and realised he had to attack his opponent’s game as the only way of disrupting the flow of points. It was very entertaining but the Melbourn player went down 0-3 and Melbourn lost all 3 strings.
Skipper Roger Woodfield said “We were really up against it in this match. At the end of the day, this team from Stevenage were stronger than us and systematically won all 3 strings fairly comfortably”
