Melbourn won 20-2
Melbourn had a very comfortable win against Ramsey who are languishing at second to bottom of the league table.
Roger Woodfield (string 5) won 3-0 and was not really troubled by Alex Parkins who readily confessed to having over-indulged during the Christmas break. Meanwhile, Sean Hamilton (string 4) was playing Chris Parkins, Alex’s brother, on the other court. Again, the result was never going to be in doubt and Sean won 3-0.
The next contest was Rob Davis (string 3) playing the visiting captain, Harry Courtney. This was more competitive and Harry won the first game with an array of interesting shots. Fortunately, Rob steadied himself and went back to squash basics and moved Harry around the court well and finished the rallies with some good winning shots. Rob won 3-1
Gareth Jones, playing string 2 for Melbourn, started well against Simon Fort, a new team player for Ramsey, and took the first two games. But Simon fought back and won the third game 15-10. Normal service was resumed in the fourth game and Gareth won 3-1.With the match in the bag, Matt Walker (string 1) was not under pressure against Ramsey’s first string, Jace Anderson. Jace put in a gutsy performance and competed well but Matt’s consistency and measured match play ensured another 3-0 comfortable win.
